Changed them and it took me 20mins to get it to do any reading. We guessed out by half degree. Took to local braun agent in Palmers ton North. Won't calibrate over 0.3degree. Also can't prove bought from nz dealer ( as baby gift) and its out of warranty. We offered to pay but they won't touch it (they phoned braun in front of me. Braun refused the fix). Took to docs yesterday. Out 0.8-1degree. What's the point of selling a product you won't fix. Surely you should be able to change the batteries without it becoming inaccurate. While this is now out of manufacturers warranty - in my view this device, which is expected to be of high quality based on the manufacturer and purchase price, is not fit for purpose if it fails after such a small amount of use. The instructions should be in the booklet that came with the thermometer. A short beep should confirm the new setting, then the thermometer will turn off. Anything above 38 degrees required attention. Yesterday my wife had some gastric problems and the 4020 told me 38.5 degrees so the Oncologist had her re-admitted to hospital as chemo was due to re-commence in three days. How easy it is to use, how reliable it is. Brings peace of mind knowing the reading is accurate. The only thing I would do to improve it is make the screen backlit for when you are taking temperatures at night. Takes 2 X AA alkaline batteries to operate with long service life between changes. The unit is factory set to display Celsius temp but can be changed to Fahrenheit display by user. The instruction booklet has a table with body temperature ranges which is handy to know too. As for the covers, I'm using it on the baby only so there's no need to constantly change them.
