Photographed and written by Ashley Mutandiro and Aisyah Azmi, first year students of Bachelor of Industrial Design UNSW Sydney, Australia. To repair your Toaster, use our service manual. Move the selector down one or two notches and see if this improves the toast. Beneath all Breville toasters is a crumb tray to catch those stray bread particles and make them easy to dispose of. However, every so often that does need to be cleaned out. If it has not been done in a while, the crumbs, consisting of bread and often times bits of anything added to the bread like raisins or nuts, can build up and after repeated toasting, begin smoking during the toasting process. Slide the crumb tray out from beneath the toaster and empty it into a trash bin. Rinse the tray, washing with warm soapy water if needed, and dry thoroughly. This, however, is not the end of the crumbs. It’s best to, periodically, turn the toaster upside down over a trash bin and tap the side to work loose any crumbs that may be attached to the interior of the toasting slots. Once done, return the toaster to a flat solid surface and slide the crumb tray back into the slot beneath it. Their function is to develop sufficient heat near a slice of bread to heat and toast it. Breakfast certainly wouldn't be the same without the pop-up toaster. There are two reasons for this. First, toasters are typically built economically to be a throw-away appliance.Excess pieces of bread broken off by carriage movement fall into the base of the toaster and accumulate, obstructing carriage movement, shorting out heating elements, plugging the latch release, and interfering with solenoid operation. By sliding or unlatching this crumb door you can release food particles trapped in the bottom of the toaster. Once the primary food particles have fallen out, move the toaster around to release other particles that may be trapped at the edges. http://hainescentreasia.com/images/brother-mfc-685-manual.xml

Periodically clean out the toaster using a can of compressed air, making sure you don't damage sensitive heating elements or switches. A slice of bread, a frozen waffle, a toaster strudel, or some similar food item is placed through a slot in the top of the toaster and into the carriage. The carriage is lowered into the chassis using the lever at the side of the toaster. A thermostat determines how long electric current will be sent from the power cord to the heating elements. When the desired temperature is reached and the heating process is completed, the solenoid turns the current off, then unlocks the latch and allows the carriage to spring up to its original position. At this time, the toasted food is easily reachable and can be removed by the operator of the appliance. If they don't work smoothly, bread or other food products cannot be held in position to be heated. To clean and lubricate the latch: On some models, disassemble the entire case by removing levers, knobs, crumb tray door, and fasteners. Fasteners are usually accessed from the bottom of the toaster, though some models hide them under plates and self-adhesive labels on the side. Clean the latch area using a can of compressed air to blow away crumbs. If the carriage moves stiffly, carefully lubricate the rod on which the latch lever travels. Use a petroleum lubricant, making sure you don't get any of it on adjacent electrical parts. You may need to carefully bend the latch so it catches properly. To repair or replace many internal parts, including the heating elements, you will need to remove the chassis from the toaster shell. Disassemble the toaster by removing levers, knobs, and fasteners, then carefully lift the shell off the chassis. Depending on the problem your toaster is having, you may want to replace the entire chassis or just one or two components. If your toaster seems to ignore your setting, the thermostat may be out of adjustment. http://tenkumo.co.jp/upload/fckeditor/brother-mfc-6490cw-repair-manual.xml
To recalibrate the toaster: On this bracket there will be a calibration knob, screw, or nut that can be turned to recalibrate the thermostat. Moving the bracket toward the solenoid switch typically will shorten the toasting cycle, and moving it away from the solenoid switch will lengthen the cycle. You can shorten the cycle if the toast is If adjusting the thermostat doesn't solve the problem, consider replacing the thermostat or the toaster. The solenoid releases the latch. So if your toaster burns toast or doesn't want to release the carriage, the solenoid switch or the solenoid itself may be faulty. The solenoid switch is located near the thermostat and can be accessed by opening the crumb tray cover. Test it with a continuity tester. If it is faulty, remove it and replace it with a new switch. To access it, remove the end cover, or the shell. Test the solenoid with a continuity tester and replace if faulty. If either the solenoid or switch is installed with rivets rather than screws, consider replacing the entire chassis or the toaster itself. Riveted parts are difficult to remove and replace without special tools. Take that knowledge and use it to help you fix toaster ovens. The tips on the next page will assist you. I've had it for several weeks now and so far it has managed to churn out perfectly crisp toast from a variety of both sandwich and specialty type breads, has made some delicious toaster strudel where the filling was actually properly heated throughout (see video) and makes a mean toasted waffle if I do say so myself. The basic function is there, and the other reviews are correct in saying that it's a user friendly toaster that does its job well. I look forward to using it for many years to come. It's easy to clean, it's quiet, it heats evenly on many different foods, no complaints thus far. Edit: I've been enjoying this toaster since mid-January 2017. I will continue to monitor in case my unit is defective, but for now it still does the job it's designed to do even with this issue and therefore maintains it's original 5 star rating from me. http://aquaer.com/images/breville-rc3-rice-cooker-and-vegetable-steamer-manual.pdf
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2018 I read the reviews others had written specifically where this toaster decides it loves your bread item so much it decides to keep it forever and the electronic mechanism never lifts again. I should say the first toaster I got had been used but Amazon was great and quickly shipped me out a brand new unit. Unpacked this one and it was NIB as they say.But as I said, others have warned of this toaster's failing point and today I experienced it too: the lifting mechanism just stops working and gets electronically (note: not mechanically so it is not jammed in any way) stuck in the toaster. I got the flashing lights, unplugged it, let it cool completely, plugged it back in.nothing fixes this problem. BZ 3.0 out of 5 stars Going full-on electronics to control my toasting made me nervous, but since there were so many glowing reviews (one blogger rated it the all-time top toaster), I thought I'd take a chance to have the epic toasting experience. We'd only had this toaster for a couple of weeks, but we are avid toast eaters and have toasted many types of breads, including pitas, sourdoughs, and multi-grain slices, thus I feel I am justified to leave an honest review. The operation is very cool, smooth, and calm. At the push of the button, the toast slowly descends into the chambers to be warmed. The toast level setting lights up and counts down until the toasting cycle has finished. It's all very cool and modern. We do not frequently buy bagels or frozen toast-ready pastries, so we did not test these functions. My husband did notice that there is a not-so-pleasant sounding squeak as the carriage ascends. It's mildly annoying, especially given the smooth operation of the design and the hefty price tag on this thing, but I was so enthralled with the newness of it all that I did not even notice it until he pointed it out to me. I also immediately noticed, from toast 1, that the toasting is not even. baocaosudanang24h.com/uploads/image/files/cambridge-process-controls-401-manual.pdf
I noticed browning is heavier on bottom edge vs.It was noticeable, but not ridiculous. Now for the really bad news. Unfortunately, this toaster, as cool as I wanted it to be, has serious design flaws. It's so close to being great, but when I saw those flashing lights that others here have described, and I could not get the carriage to lift, I cursed this product. Here's what happened. I was starving from working too long and finally decided I needed some lunch. I dropped a couple of slices of toast into my toaster, adjusted the darkness level to about 2 or so (light toasting for my sammy). I did not see the toast come up. Shortly afterward, the heat was turned off and all four buttons started flashing on and off constantly and indefinitely. I watched and waited for a bit. I hit the Cancel button, hoping to get the bread to rise up out of the toasting chambers. No change. I waited some more. The flashing continued and the bread remained snugly embedded within the chambers. I rushed to find the manual and troubleshoot. To may dismay, there is absolutely nothing in the manual about troubleshooting this problem, which so many reviewers here have also experienced. So, I did what comes naturally and unplugged the thing for a bit. I plugged it back in and waited. I could hear a faint motor sound, sounding like it was trying to do something, maybe lift up my toast, but the bread did not budge. So I unplugged it again and let it cool. I found the phone number on the back of the manual and though that would save me. I called, used the recorded menu options, and proceeded to listen to a song that I believe Breville created or at least owns, and the periodic Australian woman assuring me that my call would be taken in the order in which it was received - yadda yadda yadda - over and over again. I must have waited for 15 minutes before I finally gave up. {-Variable.fc_1_url-
At this point I was getting a bit hangry and decided I needed to fish out my bread and eat, so I took a break from the frustration for a while. I came back to this page to review the problems other consumers had with this same toaster. Sure enough, the most popular problem was the same as mine, and it seemed fatal. Why? Why, Breville, is there no button to reset things when the electronics get confused like this. Why does unplugging the toaster not serve as a reboot to help clear this. What is the bug in this design. Please make sure your engineers take a good, hard look at the design, do some thorough testing, and sell a more reliable toaster. I really wanted to like this toaster, and I really hoped that it would perform for me. I do not abuse my things. I take good care of them and I am careful to read the manual before I use them. I deserve a toaster that will work for more than a couple of weeks before going completely insane and refusing to do anything at all. At this point, I've returned my defective toaster to Amazon for a full refund and am shopping yet again for a comparable toaster that can replace my dying Cuisinart (now a Waring) long slot toaster. I'm very sad that things didn't work out with this product, but I'm glad I was able to find out sooner, rather than after the return or warranty period was up. If you do decide to take a chance on this toaster, I hope you have better luck with it than I did. I would also advise you to keep the packaging, in case you need to return it. The return process is very easy with Amazon and UPS if you need it. Buyer beware! Please try again later. Please try again later. I have been researching this toaster for quite a while and it has gotten stellar reviews from many sources so when my old toaster had a malfunction I thought now was the perfect time to pick one up. The first one I got delivered from amazon burnt the toast on the lowest setting no matter what I did. I figured it must be a faulty unit so back it went and I ordered a replacement unit. To my surprise the replacement unit did the same thing as the first one. NO matter what I did I could not get a piece of toast or a bagel to come out not burnt. I have attached pictures of the results I have had.Unfortunately this unit is on its way back to Amazon and I am sadly on the search again for a toaster that will not burn my toast or bagels:(Please try again later. I intended to refund it if it happened a second time during the return window, but I gave Breville the benefit of the doubt (because I like my Breville toaster oven) so I watched and waited. The day after my return window closed. It started getting stuck down again. I keep the toaster clean, but it just randomly gets stuck down. The carriage is either under-engineered or there's a recurring manufacturing defect. Either way, I see no evidence that Breville takes responsibility for a flawed product out of the box. Now I'm stuck with it. Also, the heating elements are way over-engineered. Anything toasted at 2 of 5 or above gets burned. No customization at all. The carriage problem added to the heating control issue forces me to give this a 1 star rating. Please try again later. Please try again later. David PAmazon Top Contributor: Camping 5.0 out of 5 stars Not slow at all. This toaster turned up in my searches repeatedly because I wanted the long slots for more artisan type breads or bread-maker breads that don't fit a single slice slot. Further I wanted a something that stayed relatively cool to the touch after use. I also wanted something that was highly ratings and this toaster was the result. I have had the toaster for a week and I am satisfied with the results so far. The lift and look is nice though because the heating coils stay hot while it raises and lowers in a quick fluid motion so you can check how toasted it is without loosing your place in the toasting cycle. Consider that again, a regular toaster when you lift the bread to check and press back down it starts the cycle over but this unit continues to the end of the selected time on the setting chosen. The unit is heavy and solid. The cool touch is good for one or two toast cycles however continual use will eventually heat the outside cast iron metal. The attached video shows a toast cycle. The numbers seem to be minutes so 3 was 3 minutes. I saw several reviews complaining about the cook time being long?! I am very puzzled by this as it was just fine. My normal use is to prepare an egg to put on a toasted muffin. So I put the muffin in and have the egg going seconds later. The toast time is easily comparable to my last regular 4 slot toaster that we had for 13 years and is easily ready before the egg is done. This is the highest priced toaster I have ever purchased. As long as I get several years use with the toast function working properly for that time I will be happy. Please try again later. Please try again later. Duspin 4.0 out of 5 stars If you buy their products, make your purchase from any other place but them so if something doesn't work as expected or intended, you have recourse with the retailer instead of them. I compared it with the identical ones at work and those were whisper quiet when the carriages lowered themselves; whereas mine sounded like metal scraping against metal with no visible obstruction or parts that were bound by anything. The CSR was attentive, smart, on the ball and even tried to call Breville himself while I waited in the chat screen. The CSR received the same message. So, Amazon did what any retailer would do in this situation and offered to immediately send me a new one (at no cost) and provide a return label for my use. I asked Amazon to wait on that until I spoke with Breville. To turn off that mental torture I complied. That was at 4:30 in the afternoon EST. That evening, at 7:48 PM a Breville person (who sounded very much like the voice on their recordings) called back and after explaining what was going on I let her listen to the noise the toaster was making. She immediately agreed that it wasn't right--especially since it was not yet 10 days old and hadn't been used more than 4-5 times. Mind you, this was an Amazon CyberMonday purchase and my price that day was well below the MSRP. So, no. Told her that I would deal with Amazon, a company that values good customers and the relationship it has with them, and have them replace it since her scenario would take days if not weeks and cost me another chunk of change before I would have a properly working toaster. Caveat emptor, folks. It bears repeating, Breville makes many great things. Please try again later. Please try again later. Simon Pearce 4.0 out of 5 stars Yes it's overpriced.
